Randomness

An Artist's Poem

Unlocking my thoughts,
and drifting through dreams,
a pencil for creativity,
a pen for pulling together seams.

Creating possibilities,
and drawing new plans,
a brush for imagination,
and oils and crayons.

Sketching the skies,
and painting the seas,
these are the tools,
I use to make these.

Art Thoughts

So I've been thinking about art lately and going through my old sketchbooks, it's quite a journey and brings back lots of good memories. While sifting between the different drawings there's one thing that struck me...my style is still changing. That thought kept coming to me over and over again and I remembered how I'd once been under the impression that I was settled, it's funny how art can continue to change and grow in such different ways, so I can look back as far as 4 years and still say it looks good even though it's older though not quite as good.

I can't say I've ever been particularly interested in finding my own style, I just liked to draw and so that's what I did. Eventually I started using references and trying new things and gradually I got better, then something started to happen; I could see some individuality in my art and it made me so happy, I thought I'd hit the mark, without even trying I'd developed a unique look! So from there I decided the best thing to do would be to keep improving my look, things could only get better right?
I suppose I stuck to my goals for awhile, but then...I took a break. Let me just say breaks can be dangerous, you're continuing to see and admire art whilst not creating any yourself, unknowingly you're collecting different idea's and overwriting previous ones, gradually you start to loose bits and pieces of what your art used to be; so when I got started again, what came out was slightly different from before, and slowly but surely it started changing more and more till it became what it is now.

So in summary, my art has changed, and is still changing, I look forward to improving and growing in it for the years to come.

I hope you didn't mind those little ramblings, yeah...it was a mess I know.

She's Alive!

Well hello again, it's been a long time since we last talked, seems I've been avoiding using this clunky old laptop for the last two years huh. I can't quite recall when the last time I posted on here was and that's pretty inexcusable but I guess it's just really hard typing on an iPod and really annoying booting up the internet on this ol' thing.

So life has been pretty exciting I feel like I've grown a lot in the Lord these past few years, I'm finding I can be very difficult to deal with and I thank my family for putting up with that for so long, I am trying to get better though and the Lord is helping me with that.
I've recently started reading through my Bible (all of it) and I'm really enjoying it, it helps to have understanding and knowledgeable parents who can explain some of the harder concepts to me, there's a lot of meat to chew on in the Bible, but I want to actually chew on it and get as much as I possibly can rather then just cramming it down as fast as possible, so I plan on going back to study and memorize certain books and passages when I'm done with my read through.

My drawing has continued as at good pace, you can't get better if you don't keep going and it helps when you watch a few tutorials on YouTube and find interesting reference picks on Pinterest (yes I'm on Pinterest now) I've recently being wearing my prismacolors to stubs, so I had to take the plunge and use my own money to invest in some new ones (I'm trying Prismacolor Scholars and I love them!). Since I plan on being an illustrator one day I need to get the best art supplies to work with.

Anyways that's it for just this moment, I reeeeeaaaallly want to finish Catherine Weatherbane even though it's an ocean of ups and downs and due for a total rewrite (cause goodness knows I'm not dropping it) I still plan on finishing up the full-of-flaws version before giving it the overhaul of my newer (and hopefully better) writing style. But here's the question, I'm finishing Catherine Weatherbane up no matter what, but how many of you actually want to see these upcoming chapters, who wants this story to go on and be completed? Let me know in comments :)

A contest!

That's right girls, the time is upon us!
I've just glanced at the polls and it seems at least 2 of the prospective contest participants want me to announce three different genre's for them to pick from but 3 would rather I allow them to draw whatever, so since that's what one out that's is what we'll do! However I am a terrible judge when I have to pick between a beautiful portrait of a person or one of an animal to be the best..so maybe we should limit this to people only? I feel like you can't judge them the same since they're different genre's.

So everyone okay with that?

RULES
. Only one drawing per person
. Must post on your blog and link to this post
. Must leave the link to your post in the comments of this one
. Brownie points for color! (it's not actually a rule, but I do LOVE colors)
. Must turn in your submissions before or by May 3'rd

OKAY now that we've settled that pull out your pencils, pens, and colors
The Winning Drawings will be judged by me :) of course, and anyone may enter as long as they follow the previously stated rules.

Finally Have Fun :D

Best of 2013

So my sweet sister Liz decided to help me out and color a few of my drawings for me :) she did an awesome job :D While coloring she got the idea to have a sort of contest thing...she said I should put all my art from 2013 up on here and have you guys vote for your favorites (I'm just putting up the colored ones though)
all in all there are 14 to choose from I'll explain more of how this is going to work after I show the pieces

*all the ones that say, "Sarah and Liz" are drawn by me and colored by her..oh, yeah there wasn't room to sign the first two sooo yeah those are drawn by me and colored by her too*
(the ones that just say Sarah are completely done by me)

 colored by Liz

Alight so, here's how the voting works in comments rate each picture in  order of favorite to least favorite example:

1. Pernisia
2. Lady Elf
3. Flowerband
4. Sierra
5. Boating (it's the second drawing)
6. Brookeside nap (first drawing)
7. Brittney
8. Hope
ect....

rate all 14 (because this is the only way I can get a somewhat accurate conclusion)
If this is going to work I'm going to need more than one voter (commentator)...so please do vote, I'd be really grateful :D

I'll try to have a working button on here later if you want to help me get some more voters :) and we'll see what's the best of 2013! Thanks in advance

All Done

So The Author's Club is now.....The Artistic Writer.
I assure you this change was completely necessary it should help me manage things a little more neatly plus I was already going over what to do with a blog and no writers I wasn't sure I could even maintain two blogs but now I've found an alternative route to tossing it. I'll use it for the overflow of stories from here and go ahead and do all my art contests, commissions, and just plain art pieces over there, it's perfect.
Though all my art related things will be centered around "The Artistic Writer" I'll still accept commissions on here and leave a message for you with a link to your piece on "The Artistic Writer" oh, yeah and from this point on we can refer to it here as "The sister blog" or "TheAW" just to shorten and simplify things.
Well what do you think :D

Sometimes I Wonder

Sometimes I Wonder
{true story}

Sometimes I wonder,
Where it all goes,
When sense has left me,
And embarrassment grows.

Sometimes I wonder,
Why I can't get it right,
On the very first try,
On the very same night.

Sometimes I wonder,
When I'll start getting it good,
To say the right things,
When I care that I should.

Sometimes I wonder,
Why the things that I say,
Never come out right,
And are taken the wrong way.

Then I remember,
That things don't always go well,
That I'm not perfect,
And can't always tell,
What the right thing is,
When I'm doing it wrong,
That's when I seek God,
With his guidance I'm strong.

Here's a few more pictures.
